| Who are the FCDP |
| The Franklin County Democratic Party exists to promote the interests of our county’s citizens in our government. We are made up of people who have chosen to become politically active in order to insure that government reflects those interests. We are not driven by a single ideology, but hold a diverse set of viewpoints. We support the use of “common sense” and “practicality” in addressing the problems faced by government. | Voting Precinct issue |
| Over the last several years our county manager has been advocating for a plan to reduce the number of precincts in Franklin County. This year he requested a law to change Franklin County from a single election superintendant to an appointed election board. This was meant to remove election officials from the influence of the voters. This new law will take effect in 2009. We believe that Franklin County residents have every right to vote close to home. The county manager has stated that his plan is an effort to cut expenses. We see that election costs are one of the smallest items of our county budget. Our county is growing. Voter registration is increasing. It makes no sense to reduce precincts now. We believe that his plan will have the effect of discouraging voter turnout. That is a bad thing. We placed the question on the ballot for Democratic primary voters in the July 15th 2008 election. Over 80% of voters rejected the idea of reducing precincts. The other party failed to even ask their voters’ opinion. Even after these very clear results, the county manager stated that he might still pursue his plan. The only real way to protect our precincts is to elect ONLY those candidates who oppose the plan. We need all interested citizens to help us by contributing funds and by volunteering to help Democratic candidates for commissioner. Please act now, because time is growing short! |

| Patty Payne has been chosen to attend the Democratic Party National Convention in Denver as part of the Georgia delegation. She has been largely responsible for the resurgence of the Party in Franklin County and has worked tirelessly on behalf of Democratic causes. She has been selected to sit on the prestigious credentials committee. We congratulate Patty and request that Franklin County Democrats step forward to help her raise the rather substantial sum needed to finance the trip to Denver.
